A Natural Wonder — Lakes in the Heart of the Steppe

At just 130 kilometers southwest of Astana, the vast landscapes of the Korgalzhyn region unfold across the heart of the Kazakh steppe. During the spring and autumn migration seasons, millions of birds stop here to rest and feed. Of the world's eight major migratory flyways, three intersect in this region, making it one of the most important bird migration hubs on Earth. In recognition of its outstanding global significance, the region was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2008.
